PUK, KDP deal would ease government formation: Mahmoud Osman

<p style="text-align: left;">a leading Kurdistan Region politician Mahmoud Osman told Kurdpress in an interview that the delay in the formation of the government of the region is disappointing, though something usual in the post-Baath era, but stressed that any deal between the ruling parties of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) would ease the process.

he expressed his hope that the two parties come to an agreement over the formation of the government and the activation of the local parliament and finally put an end to the troubles in the region and its ties with the central government in Baghdad.

He further welcomed the nomination of Masrour Barzani, Kurdistan Region Intelligence Agency head, for the post of the new premier of the region and said Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has played his role very well and now it is the time for a new figure to lead the government of the region and people in the region would welcome the change.

Osman went on to say that the new PM would face several problems, including salaries, the case of oil and the ties between the region and Baghdad, stressing that the new prime minister has no other way but to make reforms otherwise all his efforts would lead into no avail.

The politician added that Nechirvan Barzani is the KDP candidate of the presidency of the region and as the KDP is the winner party in the elections it can nominate him and this time, in contrary to the former periods, the parliament is going to vote. he clarified that former president Masoud Barzani is not intending to take the post and the way and everything is ready for Nechirvan to be elected president.

A member of the KDP, Osman stated that the three factors of party, tribe and family has boosted the intraparty relations in the KDP and has guaranteed it against any divisions.
