Iraq sending teams to Tehran and Washington to calm tensions: PM

<p style="text-align: left;">Iraq will send delegations to Washington and Tehran to help &amp;ldquo;halt tension&amp;rdquo; amid fears of a confrontation between the United States and Iran in the Middle East, Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi said on Tuesday.

He said there were no Iraqi groups that wanted to push towards a war, two days after a rocket fired in Baghdad landed close to the US embassy, Reuters reported.

Abdul Mahdi stated that Iraq will not play the role of a mediator but will try to ease tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the U.S., adding that Baghdad is trying to bring an end to the tension suing diplomatic ties.

He further added that his country is in the middle of the thunderstorm between Tehran and Washington, reiterating that both Iranian and American officials have reiterated their unwillingness for war.

No group in Iraq wants war between Iran and the U.S. but there are groups and blocs that are fueling the tension as they believe the tension will benefit them, underscoring that some sides in Iran, the U.S. and Israel are trying to flame the tension.
