Asa Sard went on to add that the congress of the party has not been held for four years and it has led into a number of problems, stating that the PUK leadership has tackled some troubles and the supreme committee of the congress has resumed its activities in the recent days to hold the congress.
He told Kurdpress’s Hassan Salehi that it is hard to predict who could be elected as the new leader of the PUK as the party has three statutes and each has called for a kind of leadership, adding that the issue will be finalized in two weeks.
Also the chief of Kurdistan Region Strategic Studies Center, Asa Sard said the PUK has made preparations to compensate its defeat in the fourth parliamentary election in the region elections, revealing that attempts are under the way to hold the PUK congress before the parliamentary elections of the region so as the new leadership could plan for the polls.
He further added due to the recent crises in Kurdistan Region, including September referendum of independence and losing the control of the disputed regions which where under the control of the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga, it is very difficult to predict how good the PUK will come out in the elections, reaffirming that the PUK can pass all troubles ahead and find a good place after the elections.
He, therefore, stressed that the upcoming congress of the party will be the most important congress of the PUK.
