Nechirvan Barzani, James Jeffrey discuss future of Syrian Kurds, Erbil-Baghdad ties

<p style="text-align:left">Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met, on Monday February 17, the US Special Representative to Syria James Jeffrey and his accompanying delegation in Erbil where the latest developments in Syria and the international efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis were discussed.

Barzani and Jeffrey also spoke about the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in Syria and bringing an end to the war and bloodshed in the country, according to a Barzani office statement.
The role and the impact of the regional and global powers and their presence in Syria and the need for cooperation and coordination among all sides aimed at finding peaceful political solutions and safeguarding the peace and stability in the wider region were also highlighted.
Barzani underlined his commitment to bringing together the Kurdish factions in Syria and reiterated his support for any steps taken by the Kurdish parties towards unity and consensus in order to achieve a stronger position for the Kurds now as well as in the future Syria while safeguarding their rights.
In the meeting, the latest developments in Iraq and the ongoing efforts to form the incoming Iraqi cabinet and the dangers of terror resurgence in Iraq and Syria and how to confront it in cooperation with the international coalition were discussed.
The two sides also spoke about the Erbil-Baghdad relations and the ongoing talks to resolve the outstanding issues between them.
