In the meeting, which was also attended by Kurdistan Region’s vice presidents, the latest political developments in Iraq were discussed, following the failed efforts to form the incoming Iraqi cabinet. The meeting also addressed the future steps to form a new government in the Iraqi capital, a Barzani office statement said.
Barzani expressed his appreciation to Kurdistan’s political parties and blocks in the Iraqi parliament for their unity in addressing the current situation in the country. The president also reiterated the importance of preserving unity and common stance in regards to the political events in Iraq. The president also said that the Kurdistan Region Presidency will continue to be a unifying factor for all the political sides in the Kurdistan Region while also preserving and supporting the unity and the common stance among political factions.
The meeting also expressed the Kurdistan Region’s deep concern for the dire political situation in Iraq and showed its firm willingness to support all efforts to resolve the crises in the country. The meeting stressed that any political solution to the problems of Iraq must be based on the constitution, fair and genuine power-sharing among all groups in Iraq and safeguarding the rights of Iraqi components regardless of faith and ethnicity.
The meeting also underlined that the Kurdistan’s factions will remain a part of the solution and will do their utmost to resolve the difficulties. All political parties also showed their readiness to enter political talks aimed at forming Iraq’s next cabinet which must address the legitimate grievances of the demonstrators; a government that is able to solve the problems and the crises and earn the trust and support of all communities in Iraq while also safeguarding the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.
