Turkey government and terrorist factions under the title of "National Army" have taken measures for two years to occupy Afrin, forcing Kurdish people to sell their homes and leave the region, Hedye Yousef, the co-chairwoman of the executive committee of Northern and Eastern Syrian Federalism Parliament, told Kurdpress about the current situation in the Kurdish city.
Armed groups affiliated to Turkey are destroying Afrin and forcing local people to sell their homes and shops at low prices and consider people's wealth to be part of their private property, she further stated.
She further stated that within the framework of the policy by Turkish government and armed groups by moving the local population and replacing them with the families of the jihadi groups, there are hidden black policies and Kurds in the region are also forced to accept the demands of these groups out of the fear of being kidnapped or arrested.
The co-chairwoman of the Central Committee stated that, of course, these violations are nothing new and they have been conducted in the recent years but have been on the rise in the past two years.
Yousef pointed out that according to statistics, 92 percent of the population of Afrin were Kurds. However, since the occupation of this city by Turkey and terrorist groups, this percentage has been systematically and substantially reduced.
The senior Syrian Kurdish self-ruling system official noted that Turkey's goal is clear, and change in the demography of the region over time and the breakaway of the region from Syria is the reason for the wrongful, anti-humanitarian actions of the occupying government.
