During an interview with a media outlet with links to his group, Karayilan said on Thursday, June 10, that the delegation told them that if the PKK agreed then Turkey would not interfere with the group’s activities in the Kurdistan Region.
“Erdogan’s request means ‘announce ceasefire with us then go fight [if] you have disagreements with the [Kurdistan Democratic Party], we will not interfere,’” he said, adding that afterwards he sought a face-to-face meeting with KDP leader Masoud Barzani to show him the offer as evidence that Turkey wants Kurds to fight each other.
Intra-Kurdish tensions have escalated over the past week following two deadly incidents where a total of six Peshmerga died.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the KDP accused the PKK of responsibility, which the group denies.
In the interview, Karayilan said that the PKK fighters have not attacked the Peshmerga in any way and would never engage in such a conflict.
“We see the Kurd-Kurd fight as a catastrophe and the biggest mistake,” he said.
He said that they know that intra-Kurdish conflict is neither in the group’s interests nor that of the Kurdish people.
