Three wounded as bomb explodes on Turkish military convoy rout in Kurdistan region

Two Turkish soldiers and a Kurdish regional security force were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded on the way of a convoy of Turkish troops in Sheikhan area west of Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region.

Mohammad Amin, the governor of Zilkan district in Sheikhan stated in an interview with Sharpars news site, that before noon on Saturday, July 17, a roadside bomb was placed on the rout of Turkish military vehicles near a Turkish base in the region and the bomb was detonated.

The blast reportedly injured two Turkish soldiers and a Kurdistan Regional Government security force who were in a Turkish military vehicle.

The official added that the wounded had been taken to an unknown location and that no one had yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

He also stated that a large number of Turkish troops and regional security forces had entered the area after the blast.

Sheikhan area near Erbil is one of the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad, and is administratively and divisively a part of the province of Ninawa, but is under the control of the Kurds.

Earlier, the governor of Kani Masi district in Duhok province announced that the Turkish army, without informing the district authorities, had established 7 new military bases in Duhok province and had entered a depth of 30 km into Kurdistan Region in the north Iraq.
