Millions in Syria's Kurdish-controlled region are in critical condition: Red Cross

<p style="text-align: left;">The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that millions of residents in northeast Syria are witnessing frequent fighting and face water cuts and a severe shortage of public and health services.

The ICRC said in a statement about the deteriorating situation in the north-eastern region of Syria. The committee wrote in a report on the situation in the Syrian Kurdish-controlled region that millions continue to be affected by military clashes, the infrastructure is destroyed, basic services are not available to residents and the coronavirus is also another crisis the residents are fighting against.

The International Committee of the Red Cross noted that among the 16 hospitals in northeast Syria just one is able to provide full medical and health services to the population, and that more than half of the region's health centers are unable to provide services to the population.

The international body also warned that repeated water shortage in the region has prevented hundreds of thousands of people from enjoying the most vital element in the fight against the deadly virus of coronavirus.

The lack of basic facilities and unemployment as well as high prices in cities has made some people to take refuge in villages, the report said.

Kareem Mahmoud, the chairman of the committee in Hasakeh province, warned that people in the region also suffer from unemployment, high prices and lack of electricity, stressing that international bodies should immediately rush to help the people in this area.

The committee also stated that the shortage of food is another trouble that the people in the region are suffering from.
