According to al-Kadhimi’s media office the PM held a meeting with the Iranian minister and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad where the two sides discussed bilateral ties between the two neighbors and called for increasing the relations, Wa’e news agency reported.
According to the statement, the two sides also traded views on the possible ways to boost ties between the two countries and review the possibilities for more cooperation in the field of energy, electricity in particular.
Al-Kadhimi stressed in the meeting that the world is facing a difficult situation due to the outbreak of coronavirus and its impacts on economy, calling for more efforts to fight against the complicated situation in the region.
The Prime Minister also noted that his country is eager to establish the best relations with its neighbors, and that the government under his leadership is working within the framework of its main plan to develop the scope of foreign cooperation and ties.
For his part, Ardakanian confirmed Iran's desire to establish the best relations and the highest level of cooperation with Iraq and supporting it in various fields.
Earlier on Wednesday Ardakanian and Iraqi President Barham Salih in a meeting in Baghdad discussed enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the energy and electricity fields.
Upon his arrival in Baghdad, Ardakanian held a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart.
Ardakanian also met with Ali Abdul Amir Alavi, Iraq's Minister of Finance.
During his stay, Ardakanian is scheduled to hold talks with the Iraqi officials.
Developing Tehran-Baghdad electricity cooperation, synchronizing electricity grids, establishing cooperation in education, and developing power grids are among the topics that will be discussed by both sides.
