The announcement came as part of a readout of a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
Iraqi and US officials began strategic talks, on June 11, which is designed to reconsider and renew relations between Washington and Baghdad, especially in the areas of security, fighting terrorism, the economy, and energy.
Kahimi’s travel to Washington will be his first since taking over as prime minister.
The briefing between Hussein and Hennis-Plasschaert also covered a range of other topics, including the recent Turkish attacks on northern Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Hussein stressed on the meeting that neighboring countries must respect Iraqi sovereignty and resolve issues using diplomacy.
He also expressed his “rejection and condemnation of any breach or attack on Iraqi territory” and called on Turkey to stop its attacks because they are a violation of international law.
