Limited but continued movement underway on Iran-Kurdistan Region border: official

<p style="text-align: left;">Abdullah Akrayee, the head of Iran relations in Kurdistan Region Foreign Relations Organization, announced movements have restarted between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran borders in a limited way.

In an interview with the KurdPress, Abdollah Akreyi, who is in charge of relations with Iran in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Foreign Relations Organization, said: As of Tuesday, July 28, restricted movements restarted in the border crossings between Iran and Kurdistan Region.

He added: As the first step in normalizing border crossings with Iran, the KRG decided that movements would be given to some people, including those working on projects, engineers and businessmen, and Iran and the Kurdish region are committed to the decision. Therefore, citizens from the Kurdish region can enter and return from Iran, and this situation is also true for Iranian citizens.

He noted that at this stage, movements between Iran and the Kurdistan region will be limited and it will be normalized in the next stages; but now it will be in the way explained. New decisions by the two sides will be announced.

Trading is under way, and the necessary trade measures have been taken, so traders and merchants can easily continue their export and import of goods, the Kurdish official further told KurdPress.

Asked about the volume of trade ties between Iran and Kurdistan Region, Akrayee said: From each border, 700 trucks of goods enter the Kurdish region daily and the annual trade between the Kurdistan Region and Iran is $4 billion.
