Washington denies US officials met PKK leaders

<p style="text-align:left">A US State Department official has denied that US officials met with PKK leaders in the Qandil Mountains in Kurdistan Region.

A Kurdish journalist was quoted by the region's media that an American delegation traveled to Qandil, the base of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), to discuss with the PKK leaders the future of Syrian Kurdistan.
The Kurdish journalist claimed in a Twitter message that a high-ranking US delegation met with PKK leaders in Qandil on Sunday August 2.
VOA's Ribaz Majid, quoting an unnamed source close to PKK officials, said the delegation had traveled from Rania to Qandil and was escorted by US fighter jets.
The United States has, however, denied such a meeting.
A State Department spokesman has denied the reports that the US delegation met with PKK leaders near Qandil, VOA reported.
The spokesman told VOA that the claim was not true and that no such conversation has taken place.
A US military source also denied the news of US officials meeting with PKK leaders and told VOA that no meeting had taken place and that the news was a completely fabricated story. VOA also reported that no Kurdistan Region officials or PKK officials had confirmed the news.
