On July 15, political leader al-Sadr said that his movement would no longer participate in the election and would withdraw his support for any party, NRT reported.
During a speech, he that his movement will run in the election with determination to save the country from corruption and occupation
"Bet on our small number and say that God Almighty does not weaken reformers."
Brought to power following the massive anti-government protests that began in October 2019, current Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi promised to hold early elections as a concession to the demonstrators.
Originally scheduled for June, they were later pushed back to October, seven months ahead when they would normally have been held.
