Trump would likely use Syrian Kurdish unity in US elections: paper

<p style="text-align: left;">The English-language newspaper Levant, based in London, wrote that it seems that the United States is supporting the negotiations between Kurdish groups in Syria in order to use the move in to support current US President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.

A few months ago, a new round of talks began between the two main Kurdish movements in Syria, in the northeast of the country. The US special envoy for Syria is one of the promoters of these talks.

"The United States wants to take political advantage of the agreement reached between the Syrian Kurds," the British daily Levant wrote in an analysis of the reason behind the US support for the Kurdish talks.

The paper added: "One dimension of this support is countering Russia's growing influence in the Kurdish-controlled areas of Syria, and one dimension is the attempt to use the Kurdish agreement as a tool during the US presidential election."

The analyst believes that James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria, wants to successfully complete the negotiations between the Kurds in Syria, and thus Trump can use it in the US presidential election.
