Kurdistan is no longer the Kurdistan of 20 years ago: Mazlum Kobani

<p style="text-align: left;">The general commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) called for the end of tensions between Kurdish movements and holding talks over the differences between the two Kurdish parties of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

"I attended the meeting between the KNC (Kurdish National Council) and the Union of Kurdistan Parliamentarians," said Mazlum Kobani, commander-in-chief of the SDF, referring to the role of the KNK in tensions between the PKK and the KDP.

"Kurdistan is no longer the Kurdistan of 20 years ago. Before 2000, there was a civil war between the Kurds. Clashes also broke out between political factions in Iraqi Kurdistan. The KDP and the PKK also clashed at the time. But now this process is over and we have left it behind. The factions have changed and Kurdish public opinion has emerged. We have friends. It has become difficult to find an ally to create a conflict between Kurds. In this short tense process, not a single individual or faction supported the conflict. Everyone opposed the process. Even our regional and international friends were dissatisfied with this process. So no one can support such a conflict," Kobani added.

"Such a situation will only harm the achievements of the Kurds," Kobani was quoted as saying by the Mezopotamya news agency.

"Any party that prepares such a conflict will not be forgiven by the Kurdish people. We are also now trying to prevent such a war. Our vision and behavior as Syrian Kurdistan is to prevent the conflict. Our message is also to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation. As the issues between the PKK and the KDP have been resolved through negotiations for 20 years, so it should be after this. Because nothing has changed. But if one side wants to attack, we, as Syrian Kurdistan, will fight it. We will not accept this situation in any way, and our position on this is extremely clear."
