The security forces attacked the neighborhoods using Hammers and arrested the people who celebrated the Kurdish parties' achieving of 6 parliamentary seats in the Iraqi parliament elections held on October 10.

As of Wednesday afternoon, they were all released.

The incidents began as a crowd was celebrating the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) winning two seats in the governorate in Iraq’s parliamentary elections when the security forces moved in to secure the area, with some in the crowd throwing water bottles in response. The arrests were then made.

In addition to the arrests, two people were injured.

Later, the security forces set up check points in the area and arrested others, including some who were not at the gathering.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani tweeted that he had spoken with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi by phone about the situation.

"We agreed on the importance of individual security for every Kirkuki,” Barzani said, noting that Kadhimi had ordered all those who were detained to be released.
