“As we take responsibility for this sensitive stage, Gorran Movement’s Executive Assembly has decided to resign,” the assembly said in a statement.
“A temporary body will be formed to run the Movement as soon as possible,” it added.
Gorran’s Executive Assembly includes general coordinator Omer Said Ali, secretary of national assembly, secretary of general assembly, secretary of parliament’s factions, secretary of regional representatives, secretary of chambers, and secretary of public relations, Esta Media Network reported.
The Movement, which formed Kurdistan Coalition to run in the Iraqi parliamentary election as one list, didn’t win a seat of Iraq’s parliament in the general election held on Sunday.
It won five seats in 2018.
On Monday, the Movement apologized to its voters and promised a thorough review and radical changes after initial results showed the party’s candidates didn’t win adequate votes to secure a seat of the Iraqi parliament.
“We apologize to Gorran’s voters and we admit that the mistakes and shortcomings were from us … therefore we have lost the trust of people,” the movement said in a statement.
“We openly say we need change and a fundamental review of the Movement and its policies because our voters have taken a stance and most of them have boycotted the election, the same way the majority has done so.”
