As a result of the meeting, the diplomates agreed on establishing a joint trilateral meeting of Syria, Turkey and Russia at the level of Foreign Ministers, as the agenda will include the issue of negotiations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Later, the media reported that Iran will also join the meeting of the Foreign Ministers.
Turkey’s efforts to normalize relations with Syria have developed over the past few months. Late in December 2022, a trilateral meeting took place between the defense ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia in Moscow, marking the first high-level meeting between Syria and Turkey since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011.
On March 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian revealed that the deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria and Turkey will hold a meeting in Moscow very soon.
