HDP publicly announces support for Kilicdaroglu

Turkey pro-Kurdish HDP's Co-Chair Mithat Sancar has announced support for the opposition's joint presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the upcoming presidential elections, stating that their aim is to end one-man rule.

HDP Co-Chair Mithat Sancar has announced that his party will support the main opposition leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, in the upcoming presidential elections in Turkey.

Speaking to Ismail Saymaz, a columnist for the Sozcu newspaper, Sancar said that their aim was to end the one-man rule and Kilicdaroglu’s program was in line with their goals. He added that they did not have any demands for ministerial or bureaucratic positions from Kilicdaroglu. This is the first time HDP has openly declared support for Kilicdaroglu.

Sancar told Saymaz that they considered this election to be the most critical in Turkish history and that they had two strategic objectives. The first is to end one-man rule, and the second is to become the most effective force in democratic transformation.

"Our goal is to end the election on the first ballot. We believe this will be an important step toward democratic change in Turkey," Sancar said.

Sancar stated that the current government had brought the country to the brink of disaster and that ending one-man rule was necessary to save the country. He believes that Kilicdaroglu's victory would be a significant step in opening the way to democracy and the rule of law.

However, Sancar also stressed that they did not expect Kilicdaroglu's victory to bring an immediate and radical change to the country.

He concluded: "We see ourselves as the main actor that will make this happen and ensure democratic change. That is why we attach great importance to the parliamentary elections. Our strategic goal is to achieve the highest representation and achieve a key position in Parliament. In the 100th year of the Republic, our mission is to bring the Republic together with democracy and build a democratic Republic. Of course, we will be carriers of the decisive mission and will to achieve peace."
