Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusolu criticized the US and Russia's commitment to the People's Defense Units (YPG) and announced possible meetings with them regarding a possible attack on Syria.
"We are thinking of a meeting and talking with the United States and countries related to the Syrian issue," Cavusoglu told CNN Turkish about Turkey's possible operation inti Syria.
"We need a similar meeting now. We are also sending a message to Russia and Iran that you have seen that a military solution will not solve the problems. Explain this to the Syrian regime as well," said Cavusoglu, noting that countries' officials have often had the opportunity to meet within the framework of these formats.
"An agreement between the opposition and the government is the only way to reach a solution for Syria's future," said Cavusoglu, claiming that the Syrian government's attacks on Idlib had thwarted negotiations on a draft constitution in Geneva.
"The PKK is a threat to all of us. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also addressed the issue during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and is scheduled to discuss it with his American counterpart." the foreign minister said, reiterating that his country respects Syria's territorial integrity.
Referring to Turkey's agreement with the United States and Russia after Peace Spring Operation, he said: "The PKK was supposed to withdraw 30 km below the border in the areas where US and Russian forces are stationed. But so far they have not kept their word. We always keep our promises. Russia and the United States have not kept their promises, and the United States has continued to support these terrorists."
"Everyone should learn from this, no one has the right to interfere in Turkey's internal affairs," Cavusoglu said about the crisis of expelling 10 foreign envoys.
"I was traveling to Africa with the president at the time. I immediately called my friends at the State Department and instructed them to summon them (the ambassadors) and to remind them of their limits by recalling Article 41 of the Vienna Convention," he said, still refusing to answer why he did not follow Erdogan's order to expel the ambassadors from Turkey.
Cavusolu added that Erdogan had ordered the expulsion of the ambassadors and that he was also preparing a note on the matter. He also announced that Turkey is continuing to follow the case of the ten ambassadors.
"We see lobbyings against Turkey. But the White House approach is very important. You are going to do something like sell defense products to another country. Well, it's the White House's job to convince the Congress," the Turkish foreign minister said in response to a letter from some US senators not to give F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.
"If the US government stands firm in its decision, it can satisfy the Congress."
He further warned "if the United States refuses to give us F-16s, we will meet our needs from other sources."
