Joint Peshmerga, Iraq security forces to start training next month

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Minister of Peshmerga Affairs Sarbast Lazgin said on Monday, November 1, the Iraqi Security Forces and Peshmerga will begin joint training next month as part of their efforts to combat Islamic State (ISIS) remnants.

In July, Lazgin announced the formation of two joint brigades, but the effort was put on hold ahead of the October 10 election.

In an interview with a media outlet affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), he praised the role of the International Coalition in forming the brigades, which will work to close down the security vacuum in the disputed areas.

On June 2, four joint operations rooms between the Iraqi Army and Peshmerga began work in Kirkuk, Khanaqin, Nineveh’s Shela, and Makhmour respectively.
