Turkey jets hit mountains in Kurdistan Region

Turkish warplanes bombed the foothills of Qandil and Asos mountains in the Kurdistan Region on Friday, Esta Media Network reported.

According to the report the Turkish fighter jets bombed Zargali village in the foothills of Qandil mountains on Friday evening.

The Turkish planes also carried out airstrikes against targets in Asos mountain near the village of Kani Tu.

There were no casualties in the strikes, but caused fears among villagers.

Turkey intermittently conducts airstrikes against suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km from the border.
