According to Kurdistan 24 TV, in a meeting on Wednesday, February 16, in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leader, and Matthew Tuller, the US ambassador to Iraq, discussed the latest developments in Iraq including the formation of the new Iraqi government.
The meeting was reportedly attended by US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Robert Palladino.
Recent developments in Iraq were discussed, with the two sides discussing legal action following the first session of the new Iraqi parliament and ongoing efforts to form a new government.
The two sides also stressed on the need for coordination and relations between the political parties and the various factions in Iraq.
The US Ambassador stressed that his country is closely following the developments and political events in Iraq and called on all parties, as well as the Kurdistan Region and the central government, to resolve the issues through understanding and coordination.
He noted that his country is committed to ensuring security, stability and progress in Iraq and the Kurdish autonomous region in the north.
Before meeting Masoud Barzani, Tuller held a meeting with Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Region in Erbil following the recent Iraq's Federal Supreme Court decision which issued a ruling against the legal foundations of Iraqi Kurdistan's independent oil sector.
According to a 15-page court document published by the oil ministry and dated Feb. 15, Iraq's highest court ruled that the KRG's oil and gas law was unconstitutional and should be annulled.
