The foreign minister said Iraq was "not the only democratic country facing difficulty with government,” and pointed to Belgium, which went nearly two years without a formal government between 2018 and 2020, NRT reported.

Outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on Friday the leading parties from the election in October 2021 have the responsibility of forming the government.
"The national forces, parties and figures that have emerged from the democratic electoral process today bear the responsibility of protecting the national path laid out by ending political gridlocks and forming a government that fulfills its obligations,” Kadhimi said in a statement to Twitter on Friday.
