Massoud Barzani, McGurk discuss formation of Iraqi government

<p style="text-align: left;">Former Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani and US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (IS), Brett McGurk met in Erbil on Monday, August 20, when the two sides discussed the formation of the next Iraqi government.

Te two officials discussed the latest political development in Iraq, as well as the fight against IS in Iraq and Syria, Barzani&rsquo;s official website reported, adding that US Ambassador Douglas Silliman and US Consul General in Erbil Steven Fagin accompanied McGurk during the meeting.

According to NRT Barzani, also the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), stressed that Kurdish political parties were committed to creating real partnership with the political blocs in Baghdad.

There should be a clear &ldquo;guarantee and mechanism&rdquo; to implement that partnership and any other agreements, Barzani added.

McGurk visited Iraq last week to meet with Iraqi political blocs to discuss the formation of a new Iraqi cabinet, after final results of the May parliamentary election were announced by the Iraqi electoral commission.
