Election observer and member of the Swedish parliament Jabar Amin told NRT in an interview that the process appeared to be democratic on its face, but failed to meet certain standards.
“In short: it was a democratic process in appearance, but it was filled with acts against democracy in context,” Amin added.
Voters were listed more than once and the rolls included the names of the dead, the election observer noted.
There were even names of people who are living abroad and in the other parts of Greater Kurdistan, according to Amin, who is a lawmaker from Sweden’s Green party.
A political party also created fake documents, he said, without specifying which one he had in mind.
“We have seen in some [polling] places in Sulaimani that employees of the elections commission didn’t allow people because they had [fake] documents,” Amin added.
There were also attacks on employees of the elections commission on Sunday, he said.
“It was not a democratic process as it is said. It was, however, filled with acts against democracy. Therefore, its consequences will be filled with problems.”
There were a number of complaints from observers and monitors about fraud and voter intimidation across the Region.
