Six Iraqi soldiers killed in Nainawa blast

Six Iraqi military personnel were killed and three others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Nainawa’s Tal Afar district on Sunday, January 17.

West Nainawa Operation Commander Jabbar Naima Karam told NRT that the dead include a commander and five soldiers.

The bomb is believed to have been planted earlier by Islamic State (ISIS) militants.

In December, 2017, federal security forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent threat in some parts of the country.
