Only a word prevents Erbil-Baghdad talks: official

An Iraqi official has stated that only a word has prevents talks between the Iraqi central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Erbil.

Al-Mada daily quoted Ali al-Alaq, a member of the ruling Iraqi State of Law Coalition that Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi wants Kurds to stay with Iraq federal court’s rule and has reiterated on the clear stance of the Kurdish region over the referendum the KRG held in December.

The daily quoted al-Alaq as saying that Abadi has asked the Kurdish region to change, in its statement, the word “respecting the rule” to “following the rule” as respecting can have two meanings politically; one is accepting the rule and the other can mean the region still thinks differently about the rule.
