"We have been talking about the impact of the US intentions to withdraw its troops from north-eastern Syria on the subsequent developments in Syria," Putin told a news conference following his talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow on Wednesday.
He added that the US withdrawal would be a positive step, and will contribute to the stability of the situation in the area under its control, if that happened already.
"In this context we support the establishment of dialogue between official Damascus and Kurdish representatives."
"This dialogue will contribute to the unification of Syrian society and national reconciliation, and it will be useful not only for Syria, but for all neighboring countries," Putin said.
Putin pointed out that he discussed with his Turkish counterpart that they were interested in the subject of forming the Syrian Constitutional Committee,
Stressing that the Russian and Turkish diplomats, in coordination with Iranian diplomats, have done serious work to agree on the composition of the Commission and carried out all the agreements reached with the French and German sides during the summit in Istanbul last October.
Putin expressed regret that the committee had not yet been formed, but noted that "thanks to our efforts, a firm and balanced foundation has been laid for launching a stable process of political settlement."
He said that a new tripartite summit of Russia, Turkey and Iran would be held within the framework of the Astana process, adding that a new summit would be held in Russia soon and that he had agreed with Erdogan on the approximate dates for the summit.
Putin also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between Russia and Turkey in the post-conflict period in Syria, where the military and diplomats of the two countries will coordinate efforts to help the return of refugees and displaced Syrians to their homes.
For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara will continue to strengthen coordination with Moscow on Syria.
He stressed that "it is important to avoid the emergence of a vacuum after the withdrawal of US forces from Syria," warning that terrorists may benefit from it.
He stressed the need to combat terrorism in Syria, pointing out that "the sole objective of Turkey is to fight terrorist organizations and the clearance of land of its elements," referring to the organization "Daash" and the protection units of the Kurdish people, which Turkey considers a terrorist organization.
