Egyptian, Iraqi presidents discuss regional affairs

<p style="text-align:left">Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Sunday his Iraqi counterpart Barham Salih as they discussed regional affairs of mutual interest and agreed to intensify coordination, as stated by Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Sisi described the election that brought Salih to power as democratic, transparent, and reflecting all Iraqi social segments&rsquo; awareness of the importance to accomplish the entire political process in order to achieve security, stability, and prosperity, Egypt Today reported.
The president expressed his appreciation for the close and strong Egyptian-Iraqi relations, and eagerness to diversify the realms of cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural arenas to fulfill the needs of Iraqi people and assume reconstruction of the neighboring country.
Sisi underlined the Egyptian policy on Iraq which pivots on support for the unity and sovereignty of all Iraqi territories. He added that Egypt has confidence in the ability of Iraqi national institutions to overcome all obstacles, and to form a government that represents all Iraqi social segments and that mirrors the Iraqi national identity.
The president added that would contribute in concentrating efforts to improve living conditions of Iraqi citizens, and preserve Iraq&rsquo;s security and stability inhibiting the re-emergence of terrorist organizations.
On his part, Iraqi president lauded the historic relations between both countries expressing his appreciation for Egyptian efforts backing Iraq on all levels, and stressing his eagerness to push forward bilateral cooperation on all scales.
Salih also hailed Egypt&rsquo;s role in reinforcing joint Arab cooperation mechanisms to face existing crises, and challenges labeling it as exemplary to achieve stability and growth in the Arab World.
The opening session of the Arab-European Summit will kick off in Sharm El Sheikh at 17:00 local time. The two-day conference will cover economic cooperation, and stances on political and security matters, particularly the Palestinian cause, illegal migration, counterterrorism mechanisms, and solutions for the region&rsquo;s issues.
