<p style="text-align: left;">The head of New Generation Movement faction in the Iraqi Parliament stated that the arrest of the Leader of the movement, Shaswar Abdulwahid, is a move by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) against political oppositions.

Abdulwahid was arrested on Sunday, March 3, after a warrant was issued by a court in Sulaimani. He was arrested on charges related to Articles 229 and 434 of the Iraqi penal code.

The head of the faction, Sarkawt Shamsaddin, told Kurdpress about the arrest of the movement&rsquo;s leader that the movement has turned into an active political force in Kurdistan Region and its followers are increasing as its has stood against the ruling system in the region and has lashed out at the situation frankly.

The ruling parties, in return, will use the courts against the oppositions in order to violate the freedom of the court and create a fearful atmosphere in the region.

He further added that the case against Abdulwahid is completely political and is an attempt by the PUK to put heavy pressure on the New Generation and the opposition lines.
