Delegations from the KDP and the PUK met in Erbil for government formation talks and issued a joint statement following the meeting saying that they had decided to hold additional talks this week.
Last week, the KDP and the PUK met in Sulaimani without much public progress toward forming a new government. They agreed to reconvene after Newroz, NRT reported.
Nearly three weeks ago, the parties signed an agreement that had raised hopes that they were close to forming a government. Since then, however, little public progress has been made.
PUK Spokesman Latif Sheikh Omer said on March 16 that his party wanted to have an equal share of the Region’s top government positions.
For its part, the KDP is focused on reinstating the Region's presidency law.
