Turkish jets hit suspected PKK positions in Kurdistan Region

<p style="text-align: left;">Turkey pounded suspected shelters of PKK in Mount Qandil in Kurdistan Region in an air operation on early March 30, according to a statement from Turkish Defense Ministry.

The shelling came a day before Turkey municipality elections on March 31.

The statement said Turkish fighter jets also hit PKK fighters in Hakurk and Avaşin-Basyan areas, who, the statement claimed, were in preparation of attacking Turkey's border troops.

It is worth mentioning that Iraqi President Barham Slaih called for the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Kurdistan Region and stressed that the continued presence of the troops was an obstacle to the development of relations between the two countries.

Salih made the remarks in an interview with The Associated Press in Baghdad on Friday, March 29, a day before traveling to Tunis to attend an annual Arab summit meeting.
