Women played pivotal role in defeating IS, YPJ commander tells Kurdpress

<p style="text-align: left;">The commander of the Kurdish forces of Women Protection Units (YPJ) stated that women played a critical role in fight against the Islamic State (IS) in the past years.

Newruz Ahmed, the commander of the YPJ told Kurdpress in an interview that women and the women fighters fought along with men in fight against the IS and they never have step back in the fighting and have always been the main forces in the fighting.

The Kurdish women showed they are the forerunner in fighting against the IS and they led the operation in Raqqa, she added.

Newruz went on to add that 752 women fighters were killed in fighting against the IS and released some 600 women and children from the hand of the IS.
