Bashar al-Assad says he is ready to negotiate with Erdogan

<p style="text-align: left;">Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stated in a May 8 meeting with reporters and writers that he was ready to negotiate with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan if the meeting will serve Turkey benefits and does not impact Syria sovereignty.

Questions were asked about regional and world developments during the meeting, Turkey Idinlik newspaper journalist Mehmet Yavuz said, adding that Assad answered all the questions including a question about Turkey which Assad stressed he was ready to talk with Erdogan if the talks serve Syria interests.

The journalist further added that Assad has reiterated that Iran and Russia should mediate in the possible talks with the Turkish sides.

Assad further stated in the meeting that talks have been held between Syria and Turkey military officials in the bordering region of Kasab and Turkey national intelligence chief Hakan Fidan has a meeting with a Syrian delegation in Tehran, the journalist also said, continuing to say that there are deep rifts over Syria in Erdogan government and Turkish military officials have a better understanding about the developments in Syria.
