Qubad Talabani calls for reconciliation with KDP

<p style="text-align: left;">Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said on Monday, June 3, that his party the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) should find new opportunities for reconciliation.

Eid al-Fitr is a golden opportunity for forgiveness but the ties between the KDP and PUK are going in a direction that was about to spoil people&rsquo;s joy of the Eid, Talabani, a leadingPUK member, said.

&ldquo;People are annoyed with conflicts, PUK, KDP and other parties have experienced war and peace and working together, thus they should understand power emanates from makeup not war of words and deepening the discords,&rdquo; he said on his official Facebook page.

&ldquo;The Kurds in Kirkuk and other disputed areas are living in extremely bad conditions, while the issues have been contained in appointing a governor,&rdquo; he added concerning the strife between his party and the KDP regarding the appointment of a new governor for Kirkuk province, NRT reported.

Both KDP and PUK accuse each other of bad faith and failure in commitment to their mutual political agreement.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) released the text of its agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Sunday, June 2.

Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Latif Sheikh Omar said on Tuesday, May 28, that the agreement between PUK first deputy secretary general Kosrat Rasoul and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader was about the selection of a PUK candidate for Kirkuk governor.

Shiekh Omar told his party&rsquo;s media that what the KDP spokesperson's remarks about the selection of an independent candidate for the Kirkuk governorship was related to a proposal for a joint committee and that no decisions were made regarding the proposal.

The Kurdistan Parliament elected Nechirvan Barzani as new President of the Kurdistan Region with 68 out of 81 votes on Tuesday.

The PUK Politburo said in a statement that the party's caucus would not participate in the session.

&ldquo;The Kurdistan Democratic Party [KDP] has not stepped up to implement our agreements with it. The KDP always makes obstacles for the nomination of a governor from the PUK [in Kirkuk, as we have agreed on],&rdquo; the statement read.

KDP Spokesman Mahmoud Mohammad said on Tuesday that the PUK had violated several joint agreements between the two parties.
