“It will be clear for us all to which direction we will step and what is necessary to be done for the mutual goals,” he added.
He saluted the Iraqi and Peshmerga forces as well as Hashid al-Shaabi for defeating Islamic State (IS) militants. He also acknowledged the US-led Coalition forces for its support in the IS fight.
Barzani said the new government would try to reorganize the Peshmerga forces and thanked the coalition forces for its support and role in the reorganization of the Kurdish forces.
Dozens of Kurdish, Iraqi and foreign representatives including Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu participated in the ceremony.
Iraqi President Barham Salih also attended the inauguration ceremony.
“We should all including the Kurdistan Region try to make Iraq an area of common interests and try not to put Iraq in conflict and war,” Salih said.
“For this, our priority duty is to strengthen the internal fronts of Iraq. This requires action and practical program.”
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani said during the ceremony that the steps to establish the new KRG cabinet would begin on Tuesday. He also congratulated the new elected president and expressed support for him.
He called on the KRG and Iraqi government to resolve their issues including those related to the disputed areas through understanding and cooperation in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

Representative of Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi Hamid al-Khizi congratulated the people of the Kurdistan Region, the government, and the parliament on the election of new president.
“We from the federal government recognize the necessity of mutual commitments between the central government and the region, and the solution of all the outstanding issues in accordance with the Constitution and based on dialogue and understanding,” Abdul Mahdi’s representative said during the ceremony.
The Kurdistan Parliament elected Barzani as new president of the Kurdistan Region with 68 out of 81 votes on May 28.
The New Generation Movement caucus in the Kurdistan parliament said on Saturday that it would not attend the ceremony which is held outside the parliament’s building.
“The current situation in the Kurdistan Region needs more respect to the legitimate institutions and parliament, where is the first source of legislation and monitoring the government. The executive power should obey the parliament. In contrast to all the democratic traditions, the parliament is taken into service of the persons,” the movement said in a statement.
The New Generation caucus also boycotted the parliamentary session to elect the new president on May 28.
