The party, headed by the former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, also took the step of calling for the dissolution of the cabinet of Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.
“Legal violations have been done in the Iraqi budget, especially in the necessary subject related to the non-submission of oil income from the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports to the central government,” the statement said.
“The weakness of the government has forced us to announce to be completely in opposition. We are also calling for the dissolution of the government. ”
Under the terms of the budget law, the KRG is required to submit the equivalent of 250,000 barrels of oil per day to the central government’s State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO), but has not done so since the law was passed, arguing that it has preexisting obligations to address before it was able to make the transfers.
This has caused considerable resentment among some parties in Baghdad, which have become increasingly vocal about the need for Erbil to live up to its obligations under the law.
Since January, Baghdad has sent monthly transfers to the KRG to use to pay government and Peshmerga salaries.
“The national fortune is for all the people and all the components, not the local government to use it however they like,” the statement added.
