6 Turkish soldiers killed in PKK attack

<p style="text-align: left;">Six Turkish security forces were killed on Friday, March 30, in an attack by the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers&amp;rsquo; Party (PKK) in the southeastern Kurdish province of Siirt, local officials said.

According to AFP the Siirt governor's office said in a statement three other village guards and four soldiers were wounded while they were providing security during road construction.

Those killed were also village guards -- locals employed to combat PKK members.

The governorate did not give further details on the attack but blamed the "separatist terrorist organization" -- Turkey's official term for the PKK.

The office said that a wide operation was underway to "neutralize the PKK terrorists who launched the attack".
