Trump talks to Iraqi PM Abadi on phone

<p style="text-align:left">U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday (April 8) spoke by phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi about reports of a chemical weapons attack in Syria, White House said.

White house released a readout statement of the telephone call between Trump and Abadi.
Both leaders also discussed the need to work together to defeat Islamic State (IS) militants in the country.
&ldquo;The leaders also discussed accelerating the campaign to defeat remnants of IS and the need to work together to counter other threats in the region,&rdquo; according to a White House readout of the call.
&ldquo;They discussed the situation in Syria and the alarming reports of possible chemical attacks near Damascus.&rdquo;
Trump also emphasized the importance of Iraq&rsquo;s unity &ldquo;in advance&rdquo; of the upcoming elections.
Local medics and rescue workers said 42 people were killed including children in what they say was a toxic gas attack on Saturday evening.
Hundreds of others were wounded showing symptoms they said were consistent with exposure to an organophosphorus compound.
Videos and images showed the wounded suffer from symptoms such as fainting, vomiting and foaming at the mouth. Bodies of dead children and other family members can also be seen in the videos and images.
