Mazlum Kobani, the SDF commander-in-chief, said the group intended to expand ties with the new US administration and expressed hope that new US President Jeo Biden would make up for Donald Trump's mistakes.
Kobani told the Asharq al-Awsat that he hoped the Biden administration would take action to compensate for Trump's mistakes, one of which was to give the green light to Turkey to attack GriSepi and Sar Kani, two cities in Syrian Kurdisytan.
Kobani called on the US government to play a more serious role in ending the Syrian crisis with a new strategy.
The commander of the SDF continued his statement that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is a Kurdish "brother" party, but stressed that the SDF has no structural connection with the PKK and operates independently.
He also expressed optimism about the future of the Syrian Kurdish unity talks, saying the two sides had agreed on a common political foundation that could be the basis for further agreements in the future.
