Kurds must have role in forming Iraqi government: UK minister

<p style="text-align: left;">Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani met on Friday (April 28) with UK Minister of State for the Middle East at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alistair Burt, who reiterated that Kurds must have role in forming a broad-based Iraqi government.

KRG Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani attended the meeting between Barzani and Burt, the official website of KRG said in a statement.

&ldquo;The delegation highly appreciated the steps taken by the Kurdistan Regional Government to normalize the situation with Baghdad and rebuild confidence between the two sides,&rdquo; the KRG website reported.

According to NRT Burt said his country values its military relationship with the KRG by providing training and military assistant to the Peshmerga, as well as its economic ties.

&ldquo;He [Barzani] stressed that it is essential that the allied countries and Britain support the implementation of reforms in Iraq in general and in the Kurdistan Region in particular,&rdquo; the website added.

Since the war against IS in 2014 Britain has provided Peshmerga with ammunition and military drills.
