Iran envoy to Baghdad meets Iraqi president, Barham Salih

<p style="text-align: left;">Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi met in separate meetings with Iraqi President Fuad Masoum and Barham Salih, the leader of Coalition for Democracy and Justice.

Islamic Republic of Iran attaches importance to the political stability of Iraq, Masjedi said in his meetings with Masum and Barham Salih, IRNA reported from Baghdad.

Recalling Iran's support for Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the envoy said as Iran wanted Iraq to leave behind the the IS crisis, today it wants to see the formation of the new Iraqi government in the wake of the fourth parliamentary elections held in the country.

The envoy voiced Iran's readiness for any kind of interaction with the new government to be formed in Iraq.

The Iraqi president said Iran's assistance to Iraq in its anti-terror fight prepared the ground for holding parliamentary elections. He termed the holding of parliamentary polls as an important step towards the country's political stability.

In another meeting held at the Iranian embassy, Barham Salih and Masjedi discussed the latest developments in Iraq.

Salih lauded Iran's stands in support of stability and security of Iraq, expansion of relations with Baghdad particularly with Iraqi Kurdistan region and briefed Masjedi on his consultations with various political groups and parties in Baghdad on formation of the new government.
