CHP deputy vows to sing in parliament the Kurdish song interrupted by Turkey police in Batman

<p style="text-align:left">Turkey main opposition Peoples' Republican Party (CHP) Deputy Sezgin Tanrikulu said he would play at the parliament the Kurdish song that the Turkish police interrupted on Saturday in a concert of a nationwide talent show winner because it was Kurdish, Gazete Duvar reported on Saturday.

Turkish police raided a cafe in the eastern Kurdish city of Batman and interrupted singer Dodan Ozer's concert while he was singing a famous love song in Kurdish, saying that singing in Kurdish is prohibited, according to Gazete Duvar.
The parliament deputy staed he would make whole Turkey listen to the song in a reaction to what he called a violation of rights.
Kurdish language and culture have been criminalised off and on since the earliest years of the Turkish Republic. In 2012, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) began granting greater freedoms to the Kurdish culture.
But since the mid-2015 breakdown of the peace process between Turkey and the Kurdish militia the repression has returned. Countless Kurdish media organisations, associations, language schools, and cultural institutions have been shut down.
