Iraqi parliament speaker denies rumors of his resignation

<p style="text-align:left">Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mohammed al-Halbusi on Sunday, December 1, denied rumors of his resignation from parliament, NRT reported.

After a fake resignation letter went viral on Iraqi social media, the speaker released a statement condemning the attempt at spreading disinformation. Halbusi also said that the media should be careful about what it uses as a source and not to rely on fake evidence and sources.
On Sunday, the Council of Representatives accepted Abdul Mahdi&rsquo;s resignation as prime minister after weeks of demonstration and unrest against the government.
However, it had little immediate effect with protests and violence continuing. Many demonstrators have called for Halbusi, President Barham Salih, and the entire political elite to be swept away.
