The remarks were made by Canada's new ambassador to Iraq, Ulric Shannon, during his visit to Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil on Monday.
The Kurdish prime minister congratulated Shannon on his new mission and wished him success, according to a statement by Barzani's office, BasNews reported.
He, in the meantime, "reaffirmed the new Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to establishing the region as a centre of stability and security," according to a readout by Barzani's office.
"Prime Minister Barzani asserted that the KRG will continue to reinforce trusted relationships with its friends in the West, including through stronger bilateral ties with Canada."
The Canadian envoy reiterated his country's readiness to help Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the statement concluded.
