He was sworn in at the Turkish parliament on Monday, July 9.
“As president, I swear upon my honor and integrity, before the great Turkish nation and history, to work with all my power to protect and exalt the glory and honor of the Republic of Turkey,” Erdogan told parliament as he took the oath of office.
The ceremony was held at the presidential palace for more than 7,000 guests, including Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Reuters reported.
Erdogan announced victory in the country’s elections on June 24, noting what he said was a public mandate for him and the alliance led by his AK Party.
According to official results for Turkey June 24 election, Erdogan was reelected and avoided a run-off election. He secured a 52.55 percent majority and received 26,068,146 votes in total.
Turkey issued a decree last week transferring some powers to the president, in line with its move to an executive presidential system resulting from last month’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
