Cited by SANA news agency, the top diplomat, Saad Mohamed Reda, said that Baghdad has defeated the conspiracy of IS by bringing its territory under control.
“Iraq counted 120 nationalities among the Islamic State members. This shows the conspiracy was huge with a target to fragment the two countries,” he said, according to Iraqi News.
“Iraq has almost eliminated the presence of Islamic State in the country.”
The Iraqi diplomat revealed about an agreement which Baghdad and Damascus are expected to sign in the near future in hopes of boosting the political, economic, trade and security ties.
He pointed out that both sides are working to reopen all border crossings, especially al-Bu Kamal-Qaim in order to enhance trade between Syria and Iraq.
Iraq is in need for many goods, fruits and vegetables that are produced in Syria. Iraqi businessmen have a real desire to access the Syrian market.”
