US establishing consulate in Erbil not related to Kurdish expansionism, former official tells Kurdpress

<p style="text-align:left">A former U.S. defense ministry official told Kurdpress that the U.S. stablishing of its biggest consulate in Erbil, the capital of Kurfistan Region, is a move to increase Washington regional political and military activities.

US plans to built its biggest consulate in Erbil. The construction process will end in 2020.
Many believe that by the move the US wants to boost ties with Erbil, in contrast with Iraqi capital Baghdad, and therefore serve Kurdish independence_seeking efforts.
Michael Rubin told Kurdpress that he didnot have a special reading of the construction attempt.
Also a researcher at American Interprise Institute, Rubin added that th US wants to turn the consulate into the center of Washington regional efforts and to show its security commitment to Syria and Iraq.
